So around the 2nd of december I went in for my 38 week checkup. Well, when they were doing the blood pressure they said it was high and that we needed to watch it and make sure it didn't get any higher. So I borrowed a friend's blood pressure cuff and tried to rest as much as possible. But my blood pressure was still high, and that was after resting. So I called my dr on Saturday, the 4th and he told me he wanted me to head into the hospital so they could monitor it. We packed our bags and called my parents then headed on our way. We checked into the hospital around 1pm and was all settled into my room. After monitoring it, the readings were coming out normal, and so we were all wondering if it was just a fluke. The baby's heartbeat was normal, and showed no signs of stress. So the nurse called the dr. and he came in and said he wanted to run some blood tests. The tests came back a while later, and at about 6pm, the dr said there was some abnormal results so as of midnight, he wanted to start me on pitocin. Yaaa! I was so ready to be done. They told me to try and rest, but how could I? I knew what was to come, and was just anxious to see my little guy. Mom and dad stopped by with Ethan to help pass the time, but when they left, I was an emotional mess. It was the first night that I would be away from Ethan, and I hated it. I knew he was in good hands, but it didn't make it easier. The nurse that came on that evening sat and chatted with me for a while. I was her only patient, so she had some time on her hands. She made the time go by much faster, and I loved her! So the pitocin started at midnight, and i tried to sleep. At about 7am, another nurse came in and said not much progress had been going on, and she thought I should go home. I about freaked out! I had been at the hospital for a LONG day, and i was not about to be sent home! Luckily the dr. came in at 9 and said he was going to break my water. (I knew I picked the right dr.) About an hour after he broke my water, the contractions really started coming, and coming on strong. I got the epidural at 10:30, and then had a nice long nap. At around 2pm I woke up and my mom and Ethan stopped by to see me. While they were there I felt it was time to push. They got everything set up and paged the dr. He came in and said, "let's have a baby! I'm going to go change my clothes and I'll be right back." The nurse said we'd start the pushing while we waited for him and asked me to do a practice push. I didn't even give the push my all, and she was yelling at me to stop because the baby was already right there. She called out to the dr who was just a couple steps down the hall, and he came running back along with a couple other nurses. It took me two good pushes and out came Jacob Robert Kaiser at 3:15pm December 5th. There was some confusion with his weight at first, but he was a healthy 8lbs 13 oz, and 21 1/2 in. long.
